Hemoperitoneum


Abstract
This study shows clinical analysis of 68 patients of hemoperitoneum treated at the department of Surgery, Chosun University Hospital during the period from Jan. in 1985 to Dec. in 1990.
There were 57 cases of traumatic hemoperitoneum and 11 cases of spontaneous hemoperitoneum.
In 57 traumatic cases, blunt injuries were 39 cases(68.4%) and penetrating injuries were 18 cases(31.6%).
Traffic accident was most common cause in blunt trauma and stab injury in penetrating trauma.
There were 36 cases of splenic rupture, 15 cases of liver injury, 9 cases of omentum and mesentery, 2 cases of pancreas, and 1 case of kidney.
All of traumatic cases were treated surgically, In liver injury, the procedure of operative hemostasis was variable. Postopertive complication was seen in 29 cases(42.6%), pulmonary and wound complication were most remarkable.
Mortality was 16.2%, and its most most common cause was rebleeding.
